Aqua and Melon May Blog Hop

This month's challenge at Papertrey Ink is this oh so pretty inspiration photo! The challenge is to use Aqua and Melon...two of my favorite color combinations!
My card is pretty straightforward. I needed a birthday card for a sweet little four year old boy. I used PTI Tremendous Birthday for the image and the sentiment. The little dots were added with 3 copic markers to bring in more aqua and coral and add a festive look to the balloons!
I white embossed the birthday words and added some Mr. Huey white spray which got pretty much everywhere except the card! I used my copic marker to recolor some pink enamel dots to make them coral. Easy and it worked!
Thanks for stopping by~I haven't participated in this hop for over a year so I am looking forward to visiting your blogs and becoming more inspired to use my Papertrey Ink Stamps!

Unabashedly Upbeat and Word Art Wednesday Challenge

I am catching up on playing in a few of my favorite blog challenges over the weekend. It has been pouring rain and last night we had flash flood warnings just a couple of miles from us. We are also watching our daughter's black lab mix dog while they go on a fun little weekend it seems a good time to do a little stamping retreat! I love the encouraging scripture that Word Art Wednesday shares each week! It is wonderful to read scripture and when you make a card with it...the words have time to really seep in and you can meditate on it while you create.
This card was also inspired by the challenges over at Power Poppy using this month's digital released floral! The inspiration picture is an album cover  from Jazz Artist Thelonius Monk.
The challenge was to take any inspiration from the above album cover and make a card with it. I used a sheet of embossed paper as my canvas. I then used a water brush and just brush stroked LuminArte' in various shades over the paper, blending here and there. I did the same treatment with the peonies image. The card base and floral image were matted in black. A strip of silver edged ribbon dresses up the side, while tiny rhinestones add a little more glitz.
To say this was a real challenge for me would be a true statement...I am so glad I tried it and could use the beautiful scripture to encourage a friend!!
Thanks for your visit as always. May you be blessed!!

Peonies in Corals~Get Sketchy Challenge!!

I have been so enjoying the challenges at Power Poppy stamps! This Friday is a sketch challenge! What a pretty sketch to feature these peonies...the delicate lines and fun details! I resized the Peonies digital for the floral image.
Here is my card recipe:
Stamps: Power Poppy Digital Peonies
Paper: PTI Kraft, SU! Chocolate Chip, Calypso Coral , SU! DSP (retired)
Dies: Spellbinders , Cuttlebug Embossing Folder Doilies
Copics for Coloring
Accessories: Lace by May Arts, striped coral by SU! (retired)
2 Kaiser Sparklets

I have been trying something new to me: when coloring an image, I am coloring two! This gives me an extra for later, and cuts down on my brain having to think too hard which color combinations work together. I am finding it easier to be inspired and keep the copics coloring while they are still out on my desk. It also makes cards come together faster if I already have a colored image.
Thanks to Power Poppy for the fun challenge. The challenge goes through the end of this month, so you still have lots of time to join in!
Thanks for stopping by!

Beulah Baby!

This picture was taken on Mother's Day. We have two daughters,  but Beulah always cooperates better for pictures with her Auntie Erin. I think she knows Erin means business and she needs to behave! Beulah is standing on the ottoman that is in front of my chair. When she was a little puppy, I started putting her up on the ottoman and we would play like that all the time. She would love to nuzzle under my cozy afghan and chew on the fringe, or my fingers. Whichever. But now she is a big girl, and she still thinks of this as her "spot." Which I guess is better than the couch. But at about six months, she became too long for just the one ottoman, so I scooted over another one and now it looks like a choo choo of ottomans, and her "caboose" just kind of hangs over the edge. It really makes me giggle. Every single time. I have a few more to share but this is it for today. Thanks for coming by.

Just sharing another one of my favorite stamp sets by Papertrey Ink, Rosie Posie! This was our daughter's birthday card this year. We celebrated with a dinner at a Steakhouse in Denver with her sister, fiance, and Dad and I. I am so glad she is living closer to home again!

CAS in Blues!

Hi! I am posting a quick CAS (Clean and Simple) card today using Papertrey Ink's Mums. I love that set and its versatility.
I  noticed I have a lot of pink cards on parade on this this one is done up in a couple of blues and stone gray (PTI ink) for the colors.
I added a couple of strips of scor-tape and used some dark blue glitter to dress up the sentiment. A couple of pearls and it is finished!
I am enjoying making these types of cards more and more as they are quick, full of color, and easy to mail!! And I do like to mail my cards.
Blessings on your day!

Pop Goes the World Challenge!!

I have been waiting expectantly, excitedly, impatiently...for the first Power Poppy Challenge!! These are some of my very favorite stamps, so intricately detailed with beautiful fonts and realistic images.
I am just a little bit embarrassed to say when I saw this challenge photo:
I thought we were looking at some exotic place around the world from me...the colors reminded me of India, and I guess I didn't look too closely at the photo because in my mind, that barn resembled a pyramid. It must have been a bit too early this morning for me to concentrate...So imagine my surprise when I  read that the "world destination" of this beautiful photograph was actually in my own backyard...Loveland, Colorado!! Oh my, I giggled over that really is a small world, isn't it? Loveland is about 10 minutes south of my Fort Collins home, and I drive the rural route often. We definitely need to get out more to see some of these gorgeous sunsets, though.
So for my card, I used the Power Poppy digital stamp, Peonies! I love these flowers so much that I tried planting one in my backyard a few years back. The area where I planted used to be a vegetable garden and gets a lot of afternoon sun. It hasn't flourished well...probably because it is lonely. I think I will try to plant a couple more where we recently pulled up a bunch of vines and see how they do in an area that isn't quite as  neglected.
I was inspired by the purple and grass green hues and used just a touch of the yellow in the flower centers. The papers are from a retired Flourishes Paper Collection: Crocus ; as well as the ribbon. I used a My Favorite Things Weekly sketch as well.
I love the font on this sentiment, don't you? I used a Kaisercraft Sparklet to accent the seam binding ribbon.
I would tell you the copics used...but there are too many as for some reason my printer ink wanted to after a bit of leaving alone...I came in with some deeper violets to" hide" some of the ink bleeds.
I am still working on digital stamping and with the wonderful Power Poppy team tutorials as well as amazingly talented team; I will get this down eventually.
Here is the sketch challenge at MFT blog:

That's it for always, thanks for dropping by...I love reading each and every comment and connecting this way with you!!

Throwback Thursday~Puppy Style!

This past October...our lives changed dramatically when after a very difficult season of consecutive losses (the most difficult was my Mother) ...we gained one very special puppy. I  named her Beulah. The name means "Promised Land," for that is what I believed we would see...a land of promise,  days of new hope, new beginnings, family relationships renewed, restored, happiness and joy after the state of sorrow begins to wane. I needed joy back in my life and I searched for a year for this little girl to join our family.
I spend so much of my time laughing now...and smiles seem to be a perpetual state of my heart. Puppies are a lot of work, I will be the first one to state that...but anyone who has had a puppy knows...the dividends outweigh the investment. I have heard friends tell me that they are about ready to get rid of a puppy after the first few months...and I just want to say, keep at it...keep training, keep giving lots of positive reinforcements, and realize that you are making an investment that will give back over many years!!
Beulah and her beloved socks sitting in our deck wicker chair. Sweet face! But the wicker couch that is on the other side? Well, that was chewed up before the end of summer! Naughty.
                                                    Our daughter, Erin, and Beulah
It was "puppy love" for our daughter, Erin, the first time she was able to fly in from her temporary home in Cupertino, California She could not get enough hugs, kisses, and carried her in her arms like this most of the weekend!  Melts my heart!!
