Scripture Challenge
Wishing you a blessed Sunday morning!! Today's we celebrate a new week, scripture, and challenge on the Stampin' Sisters in Christ blog. Our challenge is brought to us by the talented Candace. Please go to the SSiC blog to read Candace's devotional thoughts this week and see what the lovely team has made!
This week's scripture:
Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him."
The challenge: Use a sentiment only: no images.
Our sponsor: Our Daily Bread Designs: 15.00 g.c.
I love featuring scripture on my cards! God's word stands alone. It is beautiful and I don't want to ever forget the simplicity and truth in God's word...alone!! Sometimes we are tempted to "add to" or "embellish" the Bible either because we think adding our own application (experiential) or what we think it means, (subjecive,) will give more credence to or somehow add to what God has already said. Some add allegories or mystical experiences to scripture when it is not there (or anywhere for that matter!) Scripture is sometimes taken by others and bended, embellished, added to, taken away, sifted through, watered down, to the point that if you do not know it, you may be very confused just what God says! Rather than letting scripture rule, and context reign...we allow our own finite minds to rule and our own preconceived notions to reign. But if we were to just take scripture and first, regard it as "true" and "God-breathed," then meditate on it...that is when we are allowing God to speak through it, and that is where the power of the written word to "teach, rebuke, correct and train in righteousness is!" (2 Timothy 3:16)
Last night I was having a conversation with a lovely woman and we were discussing the recent devastation of the fires in and near our community. I told her that two days after the outbreak in Colorado Springs, I had attended a Christian conference right in the heart of Colorado Springs. While the fires raged just west of us,we had a powerful time of prayer for the community and state: beseeching God for His protection, His mercy, and His provision...but also to please send rain!! And within just a few days, we had downpours all over our state, putting out those fires. The woman I talked to agreed with me that it was prayer, but then she added this, "Well, Mother Nature, God, whatever you want to call it... the power of prayer and community put out those fires." As a believer, I am certain that God is God, and not Mother Nature, that He alone is sovereign over the weather! And we have Him alone to thank for bringing us the rain!! And am I ever thankful for that!
This is a stamp image I've had a long time and have not yet used...I think it was gifted by a friend. I decided to attempt to match the ink to the d.p...and used a small ink spot to ink up one word. The leaves are a Sizzix die, shaded in a deeper blue ink, tiny prima flowers for added elements, two layered Spellbinder dies, and one pretty designer paper! I had a lot of fun with this challenge, and hope you have the opportunity to join us this week!
Thanks for stopping by...until next time, wishing you a blessed week!

Traci - I love this card. I love how you inked one word a different color. I also really like the flowers you added. They match the flowers on the DP. Nice job!

Lovely....the colors are so complimentary and your 3-D cards are an amazing match for the papers. (I have some of those....where ARE they?) Love your thoughts on the post today, so completely true. Love the way our love of Christ and God's Word just draws our hearts together, sister. Hugs and have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Traci - both your art and your words - they are both uplifting and beautiful! What a beautiful shining light you are - for all to see Sistah! God bless you! {{{hugs}}}
ReplyDeleteHi Traci!
ReplyDeleteIt was sooo good to see your sweet face on my blog this week! Sorry it's taken me some time to get back to you but I'm still getting this computer loaded and working with different programs. Every time I think I have it something else is incompatable and needs to be reloaded or I have exceeded my lisence for the number of computers I can put a program on (like MS Office and Adobe Photoshop Elements). Had to call them to explain that I had removed the programs before I returned the computer but they had to manually reactivate them. LOL!... so needless to say, I don't seem to be doing well at visiting lately!
Anyway... you asked about the TH Markers. I really do like them but not for the same things as Copics. If I have an image that lends itself to lots of coloring and shading, there's nothing like Copics... and I love them for things like floral images, scenes, etc. However, if it's a pic I'd like to watercolor, I like the TH markers. Also... I love coloring my stamps with them, and that's what I did on the altered piece... they seem to work beautifully for that! So the answer I guess is it depends on what I'm doing! I don't think I could ever trade in my Copics, but I do love these too! I don't know about where you live, but here, our Michaels and Hobby Lobby do carry small groups of them and so if you'd like to play with them I'd get them with the coupons... one color family at a time until you have the ones you want... and that way they aren't so expensive. Hope that helps!
Now... may I just say your card is just beautiful!!! I love how you added the pretty flowers and they so perfectly match your dp!!! Loved reading your thoughts on the verse this week too! So true!!! I'm so glad I pray to GOD, who answers... NOT to mother nature!!!
Hugs and blessings to you my friend! I miss chatting with you all! Hope all is well with you!
Grace
Wonderfully fresh colors!
