Leafing out into Something New!

I don't know where summer went...it is with a bit of nostalgia I am noticing brighter blue days with the crisp of Autumn approaching. The mornings have been a bit too chilly to sit on our back porched in area of the deck...but I am anyways, with my polar bear robe and my polar bear looking Beulah beside me...and this week we are watching our daughter's dog, Daisy, so I also have one at my feet...well actually on top of my feet where she rests her head. With the end of summer wedding, summer seemed to go by too quickly, so now I am hoping to set a more leisurely pace for Fall. I love Fall and everything about it. It is my favorite season, although all seasons have their special nuances that sing to me.
I have two Pinterest inspired cards today, both with a lot of white space, bright colors, and minimal layers.
I made this for a dear friend who came to our daughter's wedding, which was 3 1/2 hours from our town and a 2 night hotel stay. She was like my own "Maid of Honor" only she was the Mother of the Bride's Maid of Honor"...meaning she was by my side, offered to do anything, get anything, complimented me about my dress, assured me, made me laugh, brought me champagne for toasts, and danced like a fool with me on stage...which my husband has a video he's keeping somewhere, which I have not seen...if I did I am sure I would be quite embarrassed. But let's just say, we had fun! Which really was my goal for after the ceremony...just enjoy the festivities!
My friend is a big Starbucks coffee drinker...so I was really excited when I found this gift card there today:
It will make a cute tuck in to the inside of my card, don't you think? I think she'll be tickled!
Anyway, I made her this card that was featured on the Papertrey Ink blog using the Mighty Oaks stamp set and matching die. I also used a wood grain embossing folder to add texture, which you might see more clearly if you click on the picture for magnification. The swirls were free handed with a silver gel pen.
So here is another one just like it...except for one thing:
The sentiment is one of my favorites, so I made another card using the sentiment stamped in a new color from SU!, Blue Lagoon. I stamped that thing at least 12 times before getting it straight, and so I had to include a picture.
The next card is using PTI's older set, Turning a New Leaf. This leaf is the closest I could find that wasn't more of an outline stamp and had a filled in image which made the overall look much more graphic.  I masked the image and stamped on Watercolor Paper.
I then used a very old SU! sentiment with the SU! word window and oval scallop punches to basically hide a boo boo. The colors are old olive and navy blue card stock, and the addition of more mustard inks to the olive and navy.
These are not original ideas...though I have added my own changes, the ideas were from the PTI blog.
I am always blessed to have you visit. The coffee pot is on and if you come to sit on my deck, I'm sure we'll have a pooch around to keep you warmed up!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  1. Both are wonderful CAS! your free hand swirls look awesome great job. Fall is in there air for sure... beautiful.

  2. Both of these are beautiful Traci. My fav is that first one :) , love the leaves.

  3. Oh, Traci! I don't care whether the ideas are original or not. You executed them beautifully! I love all the cards -- the colors and simplicity. Beautiful sentiments on the first two. Really love that subtle woodgrain embossed background. I have a woodgrain folder, but it makes a much deeper impression, and I would love something more like this one. Your friend sounds very dear, indeed, and I know she'll love your card. It's very nice that you took the time to make it and send it to her.

  4. Ooooh Traci I love both these designs!!! Love how the gift card is a perfect match for the card and the colors on that one make me smile. Love the more graphic card as well.... just beautiful and the white space really makes the images pop so beautifully! Hope all is well with you my friend!!!
